Review: Laurence & Chico Spring 2019 Collection
A lot of ingredients went into the making of this Laurence & Chico’s show. The invite lured guest to Chelsea Piers Fitness where workout equipment sat along the indoor running track leading to the presentation space, a basketball court. Runway walk coach extraordinaire Miss J Alexander opened the show ballroom culture style fashion as voguers took to the floor duck walking, death dropping and towering over attendees in sky-high platform heels and tulle dresses. And the duo’s inspiration for their Spring 2019 Collection, sports. It was a lot of ideas for one runway show, but it was fun. The thrills got a reaction out of the press as we all grabbed our phones to post the performance on our social media accounts.
Where exactly were the sports influences? Net overlays on dresses, windbreakers reconstructed into strapless mini dresses, exposed zipper detailing on crew neck shirts. Drawstrings in tennis ball greens and basketball orange interlocked to create skirts and words "run" and "sport" spelled out on tee shirts, the edge of tulle fabric and on Nike Air Force One's. It was far from what you'd expect from a sport-inspired ready-to-wear, but it did kick off NYFW with a bang.
