PFW: Mihara Yasuhiro SS24 Collection

"Even when designer Mihara Yasuhiro is designing for the future, he be reminiscing." This play on the J.Cole line from "Fire Squad" sums up Yasuhiro's mindset as he embarked on designing for Spring 2024. Recalling his teenage years in the 90s when, "in those days, we were too busy having fun and not having a care in the world," Mihara Yasuhiro presented a theatrical take on 1990s fashion trends for his Spring 2024 collection.

The clothes were oversized, acid washed, and oozed a "Post-Cold War" era aesthetics. Amplifying the Japanese designer's 90s vision were shoe strings acting as a belt on a full-length denim skirt, tattered knitwear, and cassette tape attached to zipper handles and lanyards worn around the neck. But Yasuhiro's reflection couldn't keep futuristic design elements from accenting this lineup of throwback silhouettes. The most successful modern garment on the runway was Look 20's blue and white big and tall menswear shirt with enlarged cuffs and collar to match. It was the only shirt with the extra large collar and cuff. The detail would have been d the other button-down styles seen throughout the lineup, but the one-of-one treatment made that garment special. Additional amusing details outside the cassettes were the plush Tyrannosaurus Rex and Triceratops cross-body bags that could undoubtedly become street-style staples next season. Check out every look from the Mihara Yasuhiro Spring 2024 Collection below.
