LFW: Matty Bovan Collaborated With Coach Again On Accessories For His AW19 Collection
Matty Bovan and Coach have years of history together. The two first linked up back in 2016 when the York-born designer showed his collections under Fashion East, a non-profit initiative to support emerging designers. In 2018 Bovan doodles and embellished signature coach bag styles for his AW18 collection that quickly sold out on Matches Fashion. For his latest offerings, Gina Shoes and milliner, Stephen Jones joined the fun, birthing GINA for COACH X Matty Bovan and Stephen Jones for COACH X Matty Bovan. Classic fedoras, turbans, thigh high boots and platform clog got the signature Coach favorite treatment. In a logo everything world, the monogrammed C’s brought me back to my high school days when every girl had to have a Coach shoulder bag stamped with the brand's initials.
As for the rest of the collection, inspiration from a letter addressed to the designer’s late grandmother got the creative wheels turning. The last eight words of the message: In Uncertain Times, This Is A Sure Thing, now served as his AW19 collection title and the mark of Bovan — clashing prints, tons of textures, embellishments galore and a lot of knits— outfitted models in eery 19th-century Victorian feeling clothes. Fish, florals, paisley, and plaids became one on separates. English dragon knitwear put his masters degree in Fashion Knitwear from Central Saint Martins to use, and Tops had tight-fitting sleeves, and skirts nipped at the waist and gradually turned into beehives as models stormed the catwalk.
