Danai Gurira Bloomed In Loewe At The Costume Designers Guild Awards
Typical takes on the floral trend traditionally include multiple vibrant colors and an all-over print. We joking quote The Devil Wears Prada calling the look "groundbreaking" for spring (and indeed sometimes we're offered a free take on bold plant-wear) but as emerging trends steer away from in your face prints --hey monochromatic nudes-- standing out in such fashion isn't necessarily the most stylish statement to make. So for the 2019 Costume Designers Guild Awards actress Danai Gurira merged the old with the new for her red (grey) carpet look.
Styled by Thomas Carter Phillips, the Black Panther star wore a Spring 2019 look from Spanish fashion house, Loewe. The dress features a floral embroidering that traces the hems of garment, stretches across the waistline and some detailing on the front of the skirt. However, instead of a multi-color situation that could read overpowering Gurira dress was blush tone with some of the embellishments outlined in black. On the runway, the look was shown with an oversized crochet crossbody tote bag and wheat Timberland construction inspired boots with leather straps. Those accessories don't lend themselves well for red carpet appearances so the boots and bags were swapped out for a single strap nonfussy sandal and string of white flowers in her natural hair updo.
