Ashton Sanders Nailed The "Gilded Glamour" 2022 Met Gala Theme In Casablanca

When it comes to menswear at prominent events, it's easy for the fellas to divert to a traditional tuxedo. "This is truffle season / Tom Ford tuxedos for no reason," said rapper Jay-Z. The Black Jacket --with tails for white tie events or without for black tie events-- with matching black pants and shoes with a white shirt and bowtie is a tried and true head-to-toe no-fuss look that meets dress code requirements to a T.

But at an event like the Costume Institute Benefit (AKA the Met Gala), which is making it big-return to the first Monday in May after a two-year covid hiatus, breaking black and white tie fashion rules seems fitting, especially when it fits the theme.

For the 2022 Met Gala, while many of Ashton Sanders' peers showed up to the costume party in white-tie-and-tails, the "The Equalizer 2" actor nailed the "Gilded Glamour" dress prompt, stepping onto the red carpet in a full denim Casablanca look. The bodice-styled jacket trimmed in gold with a high neckline and pearl button detailings seen throughout fits almost corset-like through the midsection, with the gold trim continuing along the side of the pants. Gold gloves, glasses, and black shoes with gold accents complete Sanders' ensemble, and contact and vampire teeth rounded out the grooming for the night. Styled by Jordan Boothe, the winning end result was a Canadian Tuxedo with an late 1800, early 1900 style and fit.

Sanders, 26, is widely recognized for his roles as teenage Chiron in the award-winning movie Moonlight, and RZA on Wu-Tang: An American Saga, currently streaming on Hulu. This December, he'll appear in the Whitney Houston biopic, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, alongside actor Naomi Ackie as Bobby Brown.
