Hawaiian Shirts Ruled On Stage Style At Afro Punk Miami

One garment that screams Aloha summer is the Hawaiian shirt. Once viewed as the tourist shirt your dad would wear on vacation, Hawaiian shirts, and other fatherly threads, from grill master sneakers to pre-curved brim baseball hats, are having a menswear moment in 2022. For the Aloha shirt, these short sleeve, button-down tops always come in lively prints that add a punch of style to any look. And at Afropunk Miami 2022, many of the artists who took the stage showed just how versatile Hawaiian shirts are in a man's wardrobe.

A black experience like no other, the Afropunk marries music, fashion, and culture into a weekend-long festival you have to experience. For its first time in Miami's Overtown neighborhood --known as, “The Harlem of the South,”-- the Afropunk music festival immersed itself in the Caribbean, Afro-Latino, and Latinx cultures. Artists like Mavado, Stonebwoy, Skillibeng, and more made up the line-up of acts that would hit the stage, and under the Miami heat, many of these acts donned Hawaiian shirts for their on-stage performance.

Check out the black and brown men giving us Hawaiian style inspiration below.
