Dorthy And Scarecrow "Ease On Down The Road" At The Louis Vuitton Menswear Show
Smooth sounds of Michael Jackson played before the start of the Louis Vuitton Men's show. This Fall 2019 collection is Virgil Abloh's second showing as the French fashion house's Artistic Director for their menswear, and recently the first-generation Ghanaian-American designer made news with his SS19 collection for the brand already outselling Vuitton's past collaboration with Supreme. Combined this excitement for his new LV season's offering with a successful showing of his Off-White's Fall collection and you have the recipe for a highly anticipated menswear show; it was now up to Virgil to deliver
"Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" was the prelude to the "King of Pop" inspired collection that zigzagged down the Ludlow St & Rivington St runway. The Jackson nods included sparkly gloves (both sent as show invites and worn by models), Dorothy and Scarecrow "easing on down the road" on luxe knits, and a tee airbrushed with the signature Micheal Jackson toe stand. Abloh also played with the American flag, and other countries' flags as prints on separates possibly as a, "We Are the World" reference. When the musical icon wasn't the focus, clothing for the old fashion house's expanding younger clientele outfitted models. Embossed Monogrammed outerwear, fresh takes on equestrian prints and an array of luggage, from neon keep-alls to traditional trunks will keep the hypebeasts happy. Suiting came in bold houndstooth prints and subdued oversized shapes, but none of those looks wowed like Timothée Chalamet 76th Golden Globes youth formalwear Louis Vuitton pants, shirt and harnessed, which was the best menswear red-carpet look of that night.
