17 Celebrities Wearing Pyer Moss Prove This Brand Is For Everybody

Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss is fashion’s HNIC now, but before the fashion industry at large became hip to Jean-Raymond's talent, I was around routing for his success at his early presentations and runway shows. Kerby launched Pyer Moss in 2013 and on his website the designer proclaims his brand, " aims to use its voice and platform to challenge social narratives and evoke dialogue." In the next paragraph, it goes on to say, "Pyer Moss continues to redefine itself every season with collections and runways that combine storytelling, activism, debate, theatre and social commentary; all while using collaboration with artists and brands as a medium to further the dialogue around seasonal themes." These ideas couldn't be further from the truth, particularly if you remember the early Pyer Moss fashion shows.

In February 2015 I attended my first Pyer Moss show. A venue on 14th Street between 8th and 9th Avenues hosted his first presentation of that year. The collection drew inspiration from Spike Lee's School Daze and Roger Kumble's Cruel Intentions. His offerings were substantial on the leather pieces, keen on fit and muted in color-- although a section of yellow towards the end of the show brighten up all of the black and deep shades of maroon and green. The fall lineup debuted his first sneaker collaboration with Great Brands and a big bird yellow shearling that was the clear cut standout garment of the show.

That July, during the first-ever New York Fashion Week: Men's, Kerby presented his Spring 2016 collection but the designer made his biggest splash in September when he showed for the third time and debuted womenswear. This event was the infamous fashion show where Kerby introduced #BlackLivesMatter to the fashion world. A mini-documentary played featuring Eric Garner's daughter, Emerald Garner, and singer Usher talking about senseless acts of murder between unarmed black men and enforcement aired before the looks hit the catwalk. The original #inmyfeelingchallenge started here when fashion editors were pissed because of their second-row seat assignments as families of victims took their places in the "frow" (that's short for front row for all the GDI's reading). That showing went sour for Raymond, who told the New York Times that afterward, the controversy caused his European stockers to stop carrying Pyer Moss line because of his outspokenness.

Kerby’s mission to more than make clothes with his brand and platform, and his design by faith attitude has opened the floodgates for his success today. He is currently designing collections Reebok, telling Anna Wintour he's not worried about losing his steam when he played NYFW hookie and dressing every celebrity imaginable. Now labeling his lines as "Collection 1", "Collection 2" and so on, we wanted to take a look at all of the celebrities wearing Pyer Moss post glow up.
